Sounds like a conservatist attitude, which is perfectly reasonable. These movements did happen with quite a sudden arrival, which goes against the 'organic' development attitude that most conservatives have.

However, back to the topic of pedophilia. A deplorable and disgusting act in my opinion, yes, but I do have disagree with the approach many people have to pedophiles. Hunting them down and killing them like animals - or lynching them - is just another barbaric act, which goes against the very nature of upholding the moral standard of the West. Punishment and reform is far better solution, I think. Why not put them to work doing menial labour chores in factories, far from the objects of their tempation?

What are your thoughts?

Tatile, there is very heavy debate on whether sexual predators CAN be reformed. Which would explain the reasoning of most people to "hunt them down like animals" etc. Doesn't say much that even in prisons sexual predators are considered the bottom of the lowest totem pole. There's something to be said about other criminals viewing them with that much disdain. While I agree with putting them far from their temptation the only way to accomplish that would be life sentences without parole.

As Inde said, there is a large question to if you can change anyone's sexuality. Some people believe that once someone discovers that a child is a sexual object, they can't undiscover that. Now there could be the case that corrective measures can be taken, but when you consider that if you let a sexual predator back out on the streets and he's unreformed, you might very well end up with a kid buried in a trash bag somewhere... Inappropriate pictures in my book but UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY, I would not call Bill Henson a pedophile. Unless, off course, IF 20 years from now someone stumble upon "another stack of "questionable" unpublished "art works" from Bill Henson dark cellar. Which is very unlikely, I hope.

Yeah, I'm being a bit idealistic when it comes to reformation of sexuality. I do know that sexual offenders to the young and elderly are often put in solitary confinement for their own safety, but I still think they provide some use to society from such a place. It's just finding out what, as I think medical experimentation is frowned upon.

Pumpkin, the 'innocent until proven guilty' aspect is a strong force within our society(ies) and there are instances where the guilty may be let free (due to the 'beyong a shadow of a doubt). I feel let down when a person who looks to be a severe threat to society is allowed out, but I'd rather not have an innocent serving a crime they didn't commit.

Also, good on the Australian Police. Now we just need to find and rescue the poor children.
